Mission of the role:

The Head of Retrofit will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality, compliant retrofit projects, while driving operational efficiency and team performance.

Key tasks include:

  • Project Delivery: Lead the end-to-end delivery of multiple, high-volume retrofit projects, ensuring that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Ensure full compliance with relevant regulatory standards (PAS 2030/2035), while managing client expectations and delivering on contractual obligations. Capable of managing tenders and conducting full tender analysis to ensure cost-effectiveness and profitability.
  • Operational Efficiency: Optimise workflows and processes to ensure the team operates with maximum efficiency, identifying opportunities for improvement and cost savings. Implement continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma) to streamline operations and ensure consistent performance in the delivery of retrofit services. Using data analytics to track performance, forecast outcomes, and improve decision-making processes.
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive retrofit strategy that aligns with the company’s overall business goals and long-term vision. Ensure the strategy supports both operational excellence and business growth, identifying new market opportunities and innovative approaches to enhance service delivery.
  • Budget and Performance Management: Set, manage, and monitor budgets to ensure financial targets are met while adhering to agreed schedules, work plans, and service level agreements (SLAs). Track project costs and performance metrics, implementing corrective actions when necessary to optimise profitability.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Recruit, onboard, and lead a team of Retrofit Coordinators, Designers, and Support Staff, fostering a culture of high performance. Provide continuous coaching, mentoring, and training to ensure the team remains motivated and aligned with best practices. Support individual career development through structured performance reviews and development plans.
  • Stakeholder and Contract Management: Act as a key liaison with clients, contractors, and suppliers, ensuring effective communication and alignment with project goals. Negotiate contracts and manage supplier relationships to support smooth project delivery and adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure all retrofit activities meet regulatory and industry standards, including PAS 2030/2035 and relevant building regulations. Identify and manage risks, implementing mitigation strategies where necessary to ensure safe, compliant, and successful project outcomes.

Do you have…

Essential: 

  • Proven experience effectively leading and managing a team of cross-disciplinary professionals, including technical specialists and support staff
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, similar projects at scale, ensuring consistency, timelines, cost control, and compliance.
  • Good commercial acumen, including experience in pricing, cost control, and budget management to ensure projects are financially viable and meet profit targets.
  • Proven experience negotiating and managing contracts, including defining scopes of work, service level agreements (SLAs), and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Experienced working in a highly regulated, compliance-driven industry
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Substantial experience working in the energy efficiency and retrofit sector

 

Nice to have:

  • Experience with continuous improvement (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) to enhance efficiency in high-volume environments.
  • Understanding of UK building regulations, particularly those related to energy efficiency and retrofit projects, ensuring compliance with standards such as PAS 2030/2035, insulation, ventilation, and renewable energy systems.
  • A relevant industry qualification, such as:
    • Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management
    • Domestic Energy Assessor
    • Retrofit Assessor
    • Level 3 in Domestic Retrofit Advice
    • Level 3 in Traditional and Older Building
