Our NHMF Contractor Forum membership represents the housing sector’s very best in innovation, best practice and collaboration. Embodying a broad cross section of organisations with differing interests and specialisms, from the large to the small, we’re speaking to a cross section of our members about what’s top of their agenda as we move into 2022.

Tech and ECO expertise – all on one place

When it comes one of the hottest – and often most complicated – topics on the Contractor Forum agenda, you can’t get much higher than sustainability. In this issue of Contractor Corner, we speak to member, Nathaniel Butters, Founding Director of  ECO Surv, the industry-leading ECO software platform. Since 2013, ECO Surv has been revolutionising the energy efficiency, retrofit and renewables sectors, most recently bringing its innovative solutions to social housing.

Nathaniel comments: “We were excited to join the NHMF Contractor Forum earlier this year as it offers a great opportunity to connect with other like-minded organisations who are committed to promoting best practice through knowledge sharing, from within and outside of the social housing sector.

“In essence, we offer a workflow management solution that helps social housing clients navigate what can often be a complex retrofit market. Having been at the forefront of helping clients deliver retrofit projects maintaining compliance through the PAS 2030 & 2035 standard. We consider our role is to fill a gap in the market and are proud to do a lot of handholding in what is a challenging landscape.

“Social housing landlords know they need to be compliant, but often need a partner to simplify the process and provide a full end to end solution. They have told us about the challenges: ensuring they have valid, accurate and ECO & PAS 2030 & 2035 compliant documents, liaising with installers to ensure they have appropriate instructions, preparing and communicating submissions. Then there’s the implications of the new ECO4 legislation, Local Authority Delivery (LAD) scheme and the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF). We understand how overwhelming this can all be which is why we’ve invested in technology to bring together Retrofit Coordinators, assessors and clients in a dedicated space which offers huge time savings, streamlining and accuracy.

“The other challenge we’ve tackled on behalf of the social housing sector is that of Retrofit Coordinators. It’s not necessarily an easy role to recruit for as employees. As founding members of the Retrofit Centre of Excellence, our Retrofit Coordinator Service means you don’t need to employ Coordinators in-house. You can tap into our network of retrofit assessor to navigate PAS 2030.

“Over the last decade, we’ve learned lessons, experienced the stumbling blocks and pitfalls, and found out what works and what doesn’t work. That’s why ECO Surv is now in a strong position to share our experiences with members of the Contractor Forum. Our business is based on the same values as the Forum which is why membership makes sense for us. It’s about collaboration and working together to deliver innovative solutions to the social housing landlord and contractor markets. We can’t wait to explore and discuss opinions and experiences with other members of the Contractor Forum to help to support the long-term sustainability achievements that are needed in social housing.”
